The lesson that I created was on the invention of the steam engine and water pump. Both were important pieces to the Industrial Revolution. This is a lesson that I have not yet done with any of my classes, so it is a new creation. Through the resources we read this week I got to thinking about how I really don't incorporate enough historical perspective into my lessons. I guess with the idea of "Twenty-first Century" skills I have forgotten about the history that has gotten us to this critical juncture in our teaching careers. It made me think about resources I haven't used in a few years and I liked the journey back. Now I haven't been teaching that long, fourteen years, but there have been many strategies, tools, and ideas that have both improved teaching and set it back a little. I have enjoyed this masters program so far because it has given me some new tools that will most definitely improve my teaching. The 5 E's is one such tool that made me think about the strategies and activities that I should incorporate into my lessons. I feel they were beneficial to creating this lesson and I will use them again when designing other lesson. to implement this plan in class I would just have to do a little more background research and get a couple of tools, all the other logistical parts are already in place. I had a great time researching my new lesson and will be eager to implement it here in the future.
Hey Mark,
ReplyDeleteLooks good. I live about 15 minutes from Philly. I hope your Packers win this weekend!
Funny thing, that Einstein poster you have in the background of your picture, I also have in my classroom. Why is yours a mirror image?
ReplyDeleteMark, Nice job on the site!
